Edge of the Void

The clock keeps running down
Each minute engraves a frown
Every second wipes it clean
So the fatigue is never seen

The insistent ticking of the watch
Reminds you of all you splotch
Psychotic and brinking on societal norms
You swear you shall change all and reform

The glass shape curves and shines
But all you hear is others whine
The sand dripping, your silent friend
Each grain passes is another towards an end

The fears and anxieties of countless others
Upon yours you take on and smother
But what reality remains course yet dull
Beats furiously upon your skull

Why worry of such trivial matters?
Why take all the trash and the batter?
Nothing could ever make you sadder
Than believing the former rather than the latter

The edge of the void creeps and draws you in
But you shake your head because that’s where you’ve been

Dare

Wrists and arms welted with prints
Indented with the fingers’ grasped tints
Pinkish white where the blood flow stopped
In the moments when temperament chopped

Hands twisted and wrung red and black
Skin and bones stretch and crack
Nails scratch and itch for distraction
Digging in and pinching to prevent reaction

Mouth opening and closing tight again
Trying to stop the rampage of words of stain
Teeth grinded against and clamped hard
Bottom lip chewed and bitten down barred

Intentions met on mutual ground
Dispute and disdain eventually found
Forgiveness extends his hand
But forgetfulness doesn’t approach this land

Rash words collide in tensed surroundings
Ones which seem only destroyed by chainsaw’s revving
But with a swift and simple slip and snip
Brings upon tornados and hurricanes’ fury trip

The results are what matter most
The ends summarize all that is necessary to post
Symbolizing and summarizing all that went in between
Obvious despite all the intricacies left unspoken and unseen

Fallen into a routine
Left to suffer as they attack and demean
Fallen into belief and concede
Words can kill and bleed

Dare to speak up and reprimanded
Dare to act out and shredded
Dare to confess and treaded
Dare to simply be and beheaded

But does this constant batter mean to no longer try?
Will you no longer reach for the sun, moon, stars, and sky?
Would you be oppressed and made to comply?
Does vulnerability and tears means a weakling supply?

No, we will speak up and defend ourselves and more
We will act out for those who cannot take what’s in store
Our voice cannot be shadowed, muted pleas
We stand as we are and speak as we please

Dare to be and dare to change
Routine horrors should not be arranged
Dare to try and fall but get back another time yet
Because it shows them that your life is not in stone set

As Seasons Change

Oranges, browns, blues, greens
The spectrum of the year
And the pantomime of its seasons
The sounds of ocean breeze
Mix with the sweet showers of rain
The clash of thunder
Booming with the gongs and drums
The whistle of birds
Entangled with the sounds
Of wind chimes and glass bottles
The melodies of the wind and world file in
Filling the soul with passion and freedom
Cleansing past pain to dull
And rejuvenating life in inspiring ways
Stronger with each turn of the cycle
And each month past
Following and leading through the seasons

Heart’s song weaves through
Sweet smells with each note
Memories created and unfolded
Silent understanding in each
Tight embrace,
Light touch,
Quiet glance,
Loud laugh,
And fond seconds past

Watching and loving
What many either cannot or will not
Wafting in the beauty of the seasons
Wishing naught despite what
Wandered through the past
Wallowing in regret won’t make amends
Work forward and find yourself again

The rain showers pounding sweetly
Upon water, pavement, and brick
Singing stormy stories
As thunderclouds hover
Dispensing thunder’s tremors and tales
Lighting lashes the length of the sky
Bolting brightly, breaking by the grey

As people hide under their covers
I sing with the song and run outside
Arms thrown wide, head thrown back
Laughing as I spin
Loving as I live
Circles upon circles
Twirling and dancing
Insane and perfect in every way
Ripples trail along the surface
Cold air nips at my nose and fingertips
Water droplets all around
Atmosphere clean and anew

Wind whips my hair
Behind my head then
Across my face
Hands move to push it back
To little avail
Let it be and let all be
Listen instead and focus instead
On the secrets of the breeze

Listen to the sounds of the seasons
Shifting each second
Taste the colors as they melt to one
Creating new days overlapping old
Feel the difference of the atmosphere
Morphing to something better
Observe the storms and winds ahead
Challenging your every step
And listen to that song of your soul
Moving to the changes of the seasons

Lingering Shadows

The past,
Reoccurring and repetitive
A sense of no control
As history repeats itself,
An endless cycle,
Continuously
Falling deep into an eternal pit
Memories irk and trouble the mind

Like a shadow
Consistently trailing behind
Lingering close by
Never able to be shaken off

Never learning fully from the past
Remembering what was then
Reminiscing about what could have been
Yet unable to fix the problem
Wanting to change
Wishing for difference
To put a stop to the never ending sequence

Thoughts flash by
Years before
Actions past
The former you
A part of you forever
Part of your being
Your soul
Your heart
Your mind

Grasping and latching on,
Haunting you
Never able to fully let go
But one needs to learn
Then move on
The past has gone

But always able to resurface
So discover and be prepared
Do not let your nightmares of the past
Haunt the days of your present
And affect the times of your future

Cookie

A simple, everyday cookie,

Ordinary and common,

Nothing unique,

New or original

Majority of the time

People want the new,

The updated,

The better and the best

But the simple cookie,

Traditional and conventional,

Remains in the love

Of generations old and new

The golden brown surface,

The chocolate mountains,

The hills and craters upon the dough,

The roundness - smooth, yet rough

The warm, sweet aroma

That fills the nose

The sugary, comfort

That melts in the mouth

The familiar, universal

Sugary treat,

Delicious and irresistible

The simple yet delectable
