Silence

Tears,
Lachrymose and melancholy
Wrenching pain within
Eyes water uncontrollably
Over-flowing at eyelid’s rim
Don’t want others to see
Must stay strong
And keep appearance
Must hold it all in
But a single tear slips
Falling upon the cement ground
A loud pounding boom
No one has yet seen
Or heard the loud crash
Of the impact of that first single tear
And one after another
Come raining down
As you sprint away
Leaving all others standing,
Confused and uncertain
Seconds pass,
Like centuries on end,
Until they chase you down
And question the matter
But you’ve grown accustomed to it all
Routine almost
And shake your head
And sadly smile
Nothing’s wrong,
Nothing’s the matter
And life goes on
