As the Hourglass Cracks

The hourglass,

Steady and dependable

The curvy smooth glass,

Flawless at touch

The grains of sand,

Within it drip,

Slowly and gradually,

Telling of time passed

The continuous reminder

Of seconds gone by

The constant cue

Of minutes elapsed

The consistent indication

Of hours surpassed

Time does not wait,

For one or for all,

It keeps its pace,

Always moving forward,

And all must keep up

To meet the day’s, the life’s goals,

But within each and every one,

Living and breathing,

Upon this very Earth,

Beats and drips their own

Unique hourglass

And once the time has come,

That hourglass shall crack
